Pastel Hues

I've always been on the fence about spring and summer in Melbourne, despite the glorious array of blooms the gardens have to offer and the cafes advertising gelato and iced coffee. If you haven't read in my previous post already, I'll have you know that I'm probably not the firmest advocate of glaring sun, heat or tanning. I'm that girl, always putting on sunscreen and scurrying into the blessed shade of trees or buildings, where there is any to be had. This is mainly because I have developed enough sweat glands for a whole mens football team, which is not ideal.

Not entirely sure what the whole point of that paragraph was, besides providing too much information about my sweat gland activity myself.

January through March saw the peak of the kimono trend - I honestly did not think these bathrobe lookalikes could look flattering at all, but hey, here I am, jumping on the kimono bandwagon. I must say I've been pretty attached to this item of clothing recently - it shields against the burn of the sun, and is heaps of fun to twirl in.

My most recent adventure into the sun with this piece was to the annual Moomba Festival, held along the banks of the Yarra river. I intended to catch the evening sun, but my inner pig won out and I spent a good amount of time chowing down on a massive hotdog and a cup of hot chips, zealously guarding the latter against the throngs of little children running around. Chasing the last dredges of light, I stumbled upon this little garden  filled with beautiful blooms that matched my kimono to a tee. The delay as a result of my gluttony was actually a blessing in disguise - the warm backlight of dusk is so beautiful.

See, I knew the hotdog and chips were a good idea.

Beautiful Little Fool

The college I'm currently at was having a 1920s themed party, so what better excuse than that to get all elaborately dressed up? Also, more monochrome for everyone. I wasn't kidding when I said I loved it.

Honestly, it was not until I began picking up little bits and bobs for my costume that I began to learn about and appreciate the roaring 20's for all it's lavish and opulent grandeur. To me it is almost as if it sits in a perfect little bubble in time, if you will pardon my weird choice of words. The war was over, everyone was celebrating and the economy was flourishing. It was the carefree era of modernity and shifting paradigms with the invention of automobiles, cinematics, women securing their voting rights, and not forgetting the flappers which were the feminine icon of the 1920s. If I had lived then, I would have thought it the beginning of an age where everything seemed to be possible.

I couldn't sport the bob and finger wave hairstyle, complete with dangly headpiece, or the classic drop waist flapper dress that was all the rage, so I made do with some curls and a black sequined dress. Complete with pearls, gloves and soft focus photo editing. :P

More importantly, it was also the time in which A.A. Milne published Winnie The Pooh. Now what could possibly compete with that on my list of priorities?

Mixing in Monochrome

You know how sometimes you find someone who is a complete photocopy of your personality? Well, I guess I found mine in this little 4'11 pixie of a girl, Lily - she can vouch for the fact that our interests and habits are freakishly alike. I feel like this is the beginning of a very productive - or terrible - relationship. We are such enablers when shopping, as our wallets quickly found out, and our conversations are a never ending mix of fashion, makeup, T-swizzle and just all things girly in general.

However, unlike her penchant for brights and pastels, I have always been in love with the monochromatic ends of the color spectrum. So here is a post (one of many to come) that is dedicated to my love for the blacks and whites. I find that the best way to wear it is in different textures, so here I put together mesh, lace and pleather - materials that aren't supposed to match, but do. That's the beauty of monochrome. A spot of sparkle with a statement necklace, a pair of tinted glasses, and we're good to go.

My Life In Squares: 13/14 Summer Photodiary

Well, it does seem like every holiday I just take a one or two month unannounced hiatus from blogging. seeing as I've not put up anything besides nail posts and one sad outfit post this holiday, here's a photodiary (somewhat half assed, I apologise) in hopes of redeeming myself slowly.

Shopping has been good this summer. I have developed a rather unhealthy obsession with rompers. At the start of the holiday, I had one, and I now own six.
